Chris Hawken brings a wealth of knowledge to the West Hills College Lemoore Athletic Department.
At West Hills College Lemoore Chris oversees the growth of the Athletic department; the Kinesiology department including the Associates degree programs and the development of Career Technical certificates in Athletic Coaching, Athletic Training and Personal Training; and the Health Education classes.
Chris has 20 years of experience as an Athletic Director/Dean of Athletics including 6 years at Cosumnes River College, Sacramento and 5 years at Lane Community College, Eugene). He was a founding member of, and served as President and Vice President of the BIG8 Conference and was Commissioner of the PSAL & GPSL in Northern California. He also served on the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA)/Commission on Athletics (COA) Policy Committee and as the COA Administrative Sports Representative for Soccer.
During his administrative tenure Chis has been directly responsible for hosting the 2012 & 2016 USA Olympics Track and Field Trials and the 2014 IAAF World Junior Track & Field training venues. He was also responsible for hosting multiple State, Regional & Conference Championships in a variety of sports.
As an athletic administrator Chris has had the honor of creating new Inter-Collegiate Athletic programs and overseeing multiple State, Regional & Conference Championship teams.
Outside of education, Chris was a founding member and Consulting General Manager of the Sacramento Knights of the National Premier Soccer League
As a Collegiate Soccer Coach Chris led his teams to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament, NJCAA Regional Champions and ACCAC Conference Champions and multiple Number One National Rankings. He not only developed players for success under his programs, he also led his players to multiple individual success including the National Junior College Athletic Association Collegiate Player of the Year and dozens of Conference and Regional awards all while moving them on to playing careers at the four year level.
Along the way Chris collected several accolades including Regional and Conference Coach of the Year awards and inclusion in the Top 100 People in Sports in Tucson. Chris is on the Pima College Wall of Fame.
At the semi-professional level Chris was the Head Coach of the United Soccer Leagues Premier Development Leagues Tucson Amigos who competed in both the PDL and the US Open Cup.
At the club soccer level Chris was a Director of Coaching, Head Coach of several teams that achieved local and regional success, and was a founding member of the Tucson Soccer Academy and the South Tahoe Football Club.
Chris has also served as a US Soccer Federation Coaching Course instructor in 2 different states. Many of Chris’ former players have gone on to have their own coaching success at the Club, High School and Professional levels.
As an athlete in England Chris was on schoolboy forms with Chelsea FC and Queens Park Rangers in England and played professionally in the Athenian and Spartan Leagues. Collegiately he was a member of National Championship Winning and National Championship runner up teams. In the United States Chris maintained his professional standing while winning the Camel Cup and participating in the US Open Cup.
A multi-sport athlete as a young man – Chris also competed at a high level in Track & Field finishing fifth in the British Colleges Decathlon and as a senior in high school qualifying for the Track & Field National Championships in the 400 metres by winning the Middlesex Championships meet. He also excelled in cricket as an all-rounder bowler and batsman and loves to try to explain the sport to those not familiar with it.
Outside of academia Chris has owned Fitness in Training (FIT) for over 30 years – a company he began in college where he developed and sold proprietary Fitness evaluation software as well as training individual athletes and teams in multiple sports. Recently Chis has become involved in Athlete Biometric Performance Data collection and analysis and is using it to improve athlete performance.
Chris’ academic credentials include a Master’s Degree with emphasis in Exercise Physiology and Neuro-Motor Control from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master’s in Business Administration with an Emphasis in Sports Management from Columbia Southern, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education & Bachelor of Humanities (Hons.) from the University of London, Borough Road College. Chris also holds an Educational Leadership certificate from St. Mary’s, College, Moraga.
Chris‘ coaching credentials include the United States Soccer Federation “A” License and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Premier Diploma. He is also an American Sport Education Program certified instructor.
Chris resides in Lemoore, California with his three children Rachael, Kendra and Peter. His eldest daughter, Ailea now resides in Southern California. Of special note is Kendra plays on the West Hills Lemoore Women’s Soccer team where she was 2017 MVP and All-Conference First Team and plays on the West Hills College Coalinga Softball team.
