What better way to return home than to play in front of family, friends, and former teammates at Save Mart Center? That is what happened for two former Golden Eagles, Alondra Ponce and Jasmine Xiong. The former Lady Golden Eagles were in town as their visiting La Verne Leopards faced off against Fresno State Lady Bulldogs.Although it wasn’t the result the La Verne Leopards wanted, Alondra and Jasmine did not disappoint in their outing. Jasmine scored 13 points on three 3pt makes, a shifty layup to the basket and a crossover midrange jumper. Alondra scored 6 points on 2 made 3 point baskets.
Both of the former Eagles contributed a lot to the women’s basketball program during their time on the West Hills campus. Alondra Ponce averaged 8.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last season for the Golden Eagles. She attended Atwater High School here in the Central Valley and was a CCC First Team selection. Jasmine Xiong averaged 8.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game last season. She attended Atwater High School as well and was a CCC Second Team selection.Upon graduating from West Hills, both decided to take their talents to La Verne University in the LA County to continue their academic and basketball journey.
Alondra and Jasmine have started all of La Verne’s games thus far this season. They are both major contributing factors to the team’s strong start. Jasmine is currently averaging 19.6 minutes per game while averaging 10.6 ppg to go along with 3 assists per game.
