Labor Day weeked was anything but rest and relaxation for the Men's Soccer team playing two games back to back Friday and Saturday afternoons. De Anza, a 2015 final four team came in undefeated and left the day the same way.
De Anza was able to jump out to an early 2-0 lead capitalizing on several early mistakes by the Eagles. It was ten minutes into the second half when the Eagles were able to strike back on a corner kick that found Jordan Neves surging through a group of players to head the ball into the back of the net.
In the 74th minute De Anza had a player sent off due to the no tollerance policy on cussing. This was a golden opportunity for the Eagles to capitalize but De Anza was poised and did everything necessary to keep the game 2-1.
Saturday was a different story as the Eagles took on the College of the Canyons. Caynons had played the night before to a 1-1 tie with Santa Rosa before traveling down to play the Eagles and both teams looked a little slower than normal as the game kicked off in Lemoore. As the whistle blew an errant pass from Caynons slipped forward Jorge Saldana in one on one with the Caynons keeper but the freshman from Riverdale HS was unable to make them pay for the mistake. Not many other clear chances for either team in this one. It was in the 90th minute the Eagles were able to capitalize on a free kick 35 yards from goal. The ball fell between players and Jordan Neves was able to volley home the game winner with less than a minute left to go in the game.
Eagles will be back at home Tuesday the 8th of September kickoff at 2pm vs Allan Hancock College before heading out to the Cosumnes River College Showcase Tournament. Eagles will play 3 games in 3 days including the undefeated Hartnel College on Saturday.
